Training Day May 22, 2010

On May 29th and May 30th, San Francisco will be having one of the major events of the year, which is the San Francisco Carnival. This event attracts hundreds of people. In the past years, the San Francisco Guardian Angels were in these events and came upon various situations that we were able to handle very well. That’s why we decided to have the whole day on training exercises to be better prepared.

On Saturday May 22, 2010 we had self-defense training given to us by one of our members with the code name of Warrior. This day of training started at 11 AM sharp and was for any Angels who were interested in learning new self defense strategies. Warrior has been doing martial arts since he was a young child, passed down through his family. He has been well trained and his willingness to pass on his techniques to us is very appreciable. It is very important for our members to learn self defense techniques because you’ll never know what may occur in the streets. Anything can happen, but even the simplest technique can save your life.

Warrior started us off with a simple throwing and catching activity with a heavy sack of mung beans. This was just to warm us up and get our muscles going. It also tested our catching ability, using only one hand, but switching for each throw.

Then we were taught a technique that we practiced on over and over. Warrior also tested each and every one of us to make sure we all done the technique proper.

After all these exercises we believe that we are even more prepared for this upcoming major event that will be held in the Mission District. We were also able to put in our time on doing some maintenance in our headquarters. Tables were wiped down, garbage was taken out, carpets were vacuumed, and dusting was also done. We would like to thank Warrior for taking the time and giving us this painful, but helpful training!

Asian Heritage Festival/ Kid and Dog Park Festival 5/15/10

Summer time is coming soon and along with it are many events that will be happening in San Francisco. On May 15, 2010, there were two events and the Guardian Angels were capable of covering both of them, with the help of the San Jose and Contra Costa chapters. All angels arrive at the HQ and gear up for these two events early morning. We do a prebrief for whats planned for the day and also for upcoming events.

On the way to one of the events, Scorpion’s group saw a bunch of clothing and shoes laying in the middle of the street intersection. It was Scorpion's call to remove them off this intersection to avoid an accident. JD directed traffic, while Matador and Puma picked them up.

That shows the people that we care for their safety, and try to make the community not only safe, but clean.

The first event was the Children Festival that we were invited to, which was a fund raiser for children programs at Duboce Park. We were able to have a booth, which we set up to educate people about who we are and what we do and to also get new recruits for those that were interested. We also put out candy for children. Ren of San Jose and Scorpion had a team of nine Guardian Angels.

The group went there fully prepared with information about the Guardian Angels. Once they were settled, a lot of people started to gather around the table to see what the Guardian Angels were all about. Many of them did not know who we were, but with all the information we gave, they were really thankful for what we do for the communities.

During the Children Festival, some of the angels stood by the booth, while the rest patrolled around the park to make sure it was secured, for the families and their children.

Meanwhile at the Civic Center Plaza, there was another event, the Asian Heritage Festival, which is one of the biggest events in San Francisco. Lion and Greencard led the group of twelve angels. It was a crowded place to be with plenty of people attending the festival. The Asian community were happy to see us there. We also met some Asian community leaders.

No major incidents happened, but we were able to communicate and give information to some people that did not know who we were. We passed out flyers in hopes of interesting new recruits. It was the second time we've done this event. As the patrol in this event went on, we came upon a man, who was harassing people. So we confronted this man, whom we got some yells and mocks from, but he was able to leave the area peacefully and nobody was hurt during this incident. While we were patrolling the area, a woman came to us and told us that her child went missing.

We tried to get information from her about her child but she ran frantically and left trying to look for her son. Minutes later we found out that this woman eventually found her child. We posted up in strategic places to secure the area. Later in the evening, the rest of the crew led by Ren and Scorpion, showed up at the Asian Heritage Event and they passed the information about how the Children Festival had went.

On this day, we pulled it off by having two different patrols in two different events. Nine angels at the Children Festival and twelve angels at the Asian Heritage Festival, because this event was much larger. At the end of the day, we know we did our best and we were able to secure both events very well. Knowing that not one major bad incident happened, shows that we did what we try doing our best on, which is keeping our communities clean and safe. We did it and we will keep doing it because we the Guardian Angels dare to care!

The San Francisco Guardian Angels would like to thank the San Jose and Contra Costa chapters for their help.

*On another note, we received a call from Gemini, the LA Chapter Leader, that one of the members, Richard Garcia, had passed away. Gemini also invited us to attend the funeral. Since it was a short notice, we were not able to attend but were able to pay our respects to him, by wearing black ribbons on our colors over our hearts for our brother, who died of natural causes. Also, before we even headed out into the streets to these events, we said a prayer honoring our brother and also his family. We dedicated this day to him. Rest in peace brother.

Richmond Recruitment 5/8/10

Saturday May 8th 2010, we the San Francisco Guardian Angels will be doing a tour for recruiting and patrolling in Richmond. The city of Richmond is in development for a Guardian Angel Chapter, but it does have a true leader. The chapter leader for Richmond is Shadow and he will be the one in charge of this tour. For the San Francisco Guardian Angels it is an honor to help out a brother chapter when we can and it has been in our plans to do so. Now it is time to step up to the plate and get Richmond on the list of Chapters in the United States.

All the SFGA start arriving at the HQ around 8:00am for this tour. All the angels have changed into their uniforms and all the angels are ready for prebrief. Prebrief helps put the plan together for this tour and gives all the angels an idea of what we need to do in the city of Richmond. Now we are ready, ready to travel over to Richmond.

We get on BART, we get to our stop (El Cerrito Del Norte Station), we meet up with Shadow at the Walgreen's store, and next he puts two teams together for this tour. Shadow will lead team one and Greencard will lead team two. Next we hit the streets to talk to the people of this community and to get new members for this chapter.

We then march to the TARGET shopping center. As we were there, we did talk to a few people. They were glad to see us out here, but not interested. The day is still early and there is a lot of area to cover. Next, we get to a park and this park is one of the places that Shadow wants to do recruiting, so we march all around the park and we talked to everyone that we could talk to. This was a good spot to do this. We meet all kinds of people that are very interested, we meet recreation counselors, we meet community leaders and we got phone numbers for possible recruits.

But we are not done yet. We still have some patrolling to do, so we start marching, marching down the main street of Richmond. We did get recognized by some media and he stops the patrol to ask if he could get some footage of the angels, which he did and also had an interview with Shadow. As we were done with that, the police stops the patrol and asked us what we were doing out on the streets and we explained that we were out recruiting for new members and looking for supporters for a new chapter that we were starting in this city. They thought that we were having some kind of protest, or having some kind of parade. It did get resolved and they left and we began our march through the area, street by street , corner by corner. This was all we could do. There was nothing happening at this time, so Shadow decides to call it a day and marches the teams back to the BART.

On our way back we detoured through a bike trail/walking trail that this community uses. As we march through this trail we see all kind of graffiti and this graffiti is from all kinds of gangs, gangs like MS13, Crips, Bloods, Surenos, and Nortenos.

But we keep marching to get to the BART. As we get closer to the BART, we come up on some men drinking alcohol, so we had to take there alcohol from them and pour it out and advised them that there is NO drinking in public. We then got back to Walgreen's store across the street from BART to do our debrief. This was a little different being outside, but Shadow does not have a HQ yet, but eventually he will with the support of this city. We did get about 15 to 20 phone numbers, for Shadow to call back, set up meetings, to get them involved in there city, and to get a Guardian Angel Chapter started in Richmond.

Thank You Shadow For Inviting San Francisco To Your City!

Mission night patrol, 4/30/10

Friday April 30th 2010, we the San Francisco Guardian Angels are doing something that we have never done before. This will be a night patrol in the Mission Dist. This patrol will be done by the New Generation lead by Scorpion (team one). The older angels will be back up, lead by Lion (team two). This patrol is under the watchful eyes of Greencard and J.D. The whole chapter is very excited about doing this, this has been in our plans for a long time. The New Generation are young angels in their teens, from 16yrs old to18yrs old, and their code names speaks for themselves, like:

1. Scorpion, 2nd In Command
2. Apache, Sergeant
3. NEMO, Corporal
4. Matador
5. Sonic
6. Puma
7. Robo Cop
8. Breaker
9. Maverick

The youth will help keep the Guardian Angels alive in generations to come, the youth will help keep our history passed on to their younger generations. They are our future leaders!

Now back to tonight's patrol, everyone has arrived at the HQ, everyone has changed into there uniforms, everyone is ready for prebrief. The patrol is set, we will be using all radios for communication, we have one first aid tech for both teams, now we are ready to hit the streets. We begin by posting up outside the HQ, we then march to the bus stop, we get on bus #14, we get to our bus stop, 16th street BART STATION.

Scorpion decides to take the teams on the same tour as we do in this area. First we hit Hunters Alley, we picked up a needle or two, it is all clear. Next we hit Lovers Lane Alley, in this alley there is a John and a prostitute, but Scorpion and his team had them leave the alley, they left and now the alley is all clear. Scorpion then takes the teams up Mission St. we post up on a few corners, they are all clear.

Scorpions team did hit Alioto Park while Lions team stayed post up on Mission St, Scorpions team arrives back to Mission St. advising team two that the park is all clear. Next we get to 24th street BART STATION, we post up here for awhile, the corner is all clear. Next Scorpions team will hit Travis Alley while Lions team
stayed posted at 24th street BART STATION. Scorpions team arrives back to the BART STATION, advising team two that the alley is all clear.

Scorpion knows it is getting late, he makes the call and calls it a night. The 24th street BART STATION is our bus stop so we stay posted up to wait for bus #14, we get on the bus #14, and this bus #14 is crazy, Partiers, Drinkers, and Juveniles. We thought it would calmed down as we were on the bus, but it did not, we where not going to let this get out of hand. We did observe one male with an open beer in his jacket, we asked for it, he was mad but he gave it up by asking him to get off the bus. When he got off the bus everyone of those Partiers, Drinkers, Juveniles got off the bus, now this bus is safe and everyone on the bus was thankful. We got to our stop, we get to the HQ, we change back into our street clothes, we do debrief, and we did all come back safe. There will be a Video on You-Tube of this patrol, so please give comments on this patrol.

Thank You To The New Generation!
