Mission patrol, 10/31/09

Saturday October 31st 2009, we the San Francisco Guardian Angels will be patrolling the Mission Dist. tonight and tonight is Halloween. The angels started arriving at the HQ around 3:00pm to change into uniforms and to begin our prebrief, most of all to be focus on tonight's patrol for SAFETY. We made sure everyone had their flashlights and we made sure everyone had their gloves, this helps us to do a better job for seeing in dark places and to handle anything we have to pick up. Tonight Greencard will be the patrol leader, he decides that we will start out as one team then we will break off into two teams if necessary, next we partner up and hand out the radios for communication. We march to the bus stop, we get on bus #14, we get off at our stop, and our stop is the 16th street BART STATION, as we are posting up we see families with their children trick or treating, and we see drug dealing and we see drinking in public. The drug dealers take off soon as they see us (the GAs), as for the drinking we ask or take their bottles of alcohol peacefully and we pour it out and say have a nice and safe Halloween.

Next Greencard decides to break off into two teams, Greencard will be team one, and I J.D. will be team two, he then advises me J.D. to investigate Hunter's Alley and Lover's Lane Alley and that he will stay posted up at the BART STATION but to keep radio contact with him at all times. I J.D. and my team march to the alleys, we get there and there are needles all over place, so we clean house by picking them all up very carefully and putting them into Bio-Hazard containers. This is what we do to prevent diseases and we don't want to see anyone get stuck by one with blood or drugs still left in them.

Next we march back to Greencard at 16th street BART STATION except my team is on one corner and his team is on the other corner, now it looks like there are more people, more families, more kids. Greencard advises we march, team one on one side of the street and team two on the other side of the street all the way to 24th street BART STATION, along the way we post up on some corners, we investigate Allioto Park, it was all clear. Now both teams are at 24th street BART STATION, we post up and Greencard advises me J.D. to investigate Travis Alley and that he will stay posted up at the BART STATION but to keep radio contact with him at all times. I J.D. and my team march to the alley, we get there and it too is bad with needles, we clean it up and now we have four containers full with needles from all the alleys.

Next we march back to Greencard at the 24th BART STATION, his team on one corner and my team on the other, next Greencard advises the teams to march down 24th street to Potrero, the teams on both sides of the street, along the way post up on some corners took a few pictures, not bad for this area, all clear. Next we march back to 24th street BART STATION, we posted up on both corners, we stopped some skate boarders from skating because of the children that where around but other than this it was peaceful. Next Greencard advises the teams to march back to 16th street BART STATION, along the way it started to get a little crazy, we took some more alcohol from partiers and poured them out, bottles were being throne into the street, and there was a lot of public intoxication. But now we see more Police are in the area, before we did not see not one officer walking the street, we think they were in the CASTRO and they were.

We get to 16th street BART STATION and it does seem to be calming down, Greencard decides to call it a night, we now are waiting for the bus #14, while waiting we take a few more pictures and here comes the bus, as we were getting on the bus a man and his buddy was getting off drinking a beer, Greencard grabbed it from him and he wanted to fight Greencard over this. I J.D. advised all angels off the bus, we had to settle this because this guy was very drunk and we did not take any chances, it cooled down and he went on his own way. This Halloween we will always remember and we will never forget, the Mission Dist. is one of the communities that we love and we respect, and it is a SAFE neighborhood that anybody can live there. We did get on the next bus and we did get back to the HQ safely, we change back to our street clothes, we did our debrief and went home.
